It was designed to serve multi purposes, functionalities and uses with a highly flexible planning. Known to be an urban heritage, along the years, the structure failed to catch attention of the localities and the tourists, even though it was the only city museum in the city. Later B.V.Doshi took upon completing one of the structures which was an auditorium as a tribute to the French architect. Sanskar Kendra is a part of the 20th century modernist ear built by the legendary le Corbusier which was left incomplete. These structures and spots are known to bring in maximum economy for the cities. At the same time, the structure needs to portray an example of need for heritage conservation and preservation. The dissertation focuses on curating an interpretation centre for the heritage and architecture of the city as a tribute, tailoring the 606 years of its history. It is a city beaming with live examples of a time lined and streamlined art, culture and architecture, all still intact, still in use. Ahmedabad city is known for pioneering through architecture with unadulterated pure Indian architecture on the east of the river and modernist and post-modernist architecture with highest influences of the legendary architects on the west. The extent of that would remain to be around the old walled city on the east of Sabarmati River with over 600 documented heritage structures with historical and aesthetical value. Ahmedabad is the first city in India to be awarded the title of “UNESCO world heritage city. Most famous cities are known for and by their growth in architecture and real estate, their history and heritage, their lifestyle and culture. The danger of exhibits becoming mere objects unconnected with the observer, which is built into the Western concept of museum work, must be countered by discovering a connecting link of which architecture forms part. Having traditionally sought their stay and succour in a like environment, men and exhibits must now find their way to a new and constantly redefined relationship with one another. One feature of modern museum work is a pluralistic approach both to the visitors and to the exhibits. It shouldn’t be simply a walk and read experience.
The thesis talks about the digitalization of a typology of museum, the way of display and integration of interaction amongst people in the form of an interpretation centre. The number of people or the current demographics are discussed in the thesis that shows that along the years, the personal connection to authenticity of museums with the people have reduced significantly. But it is the statistics that speaks for itself. The debate begins on the point of authenticity when a new kind or typology of digitally curated museum is designed. It seeks to develop a theoretical understanding based on empirical knowledge and comparative, intensive, and on the spot study of a range of real cases. Structurally porous and perpetually in progress, it should be defined by its own role as a shaper of values, and by the broad audience it attracts. The museum shouldn’t be defined by architectural glamour or by a market-vetted collection, though it may have these. Museums are one of the examples of such a failing idea. The structures keep failing, running stagnant and with no return or yields. Be it any kind of public or private space, the era of modernism and post modernism hasn’t exactly been taken over with by a fresh stake for art and architecture.
